Luke Richards is the drummer for the Paul Eason Band and the Taylor Davis Trio and is currently pursuing a degree at Texas State University. Luke began playing drums at eleven, when his folks made the mistake of shelling out a hundred bucks for what turned out to be a pretty decent kit. Things were fairly dicey in the Richards household until a pair of fifteen inch speakers were hooked up to the tv so his father could hear the tv while Luke practiced. Other than junior high band, he remained primarily self-taught until 2001, when he began to study jazz at Texas State in jazz combos and the Jazz Lab Band, meeting the illustrious Daniel Rhodes, and, by association, (Oh my god! it's) Paul Eason, in the process. He has also spent a number of years playing on worship teams at various churches, and recently recorded an album with Fifth Sunday of the Wimberley United Methodist Church. Although primarily a drum set player, he enjoys playing timpani in the Easter and Christmas cantatas every year at WUMC, and spends (most of) the rest of his Sundays singing bass in the choir. Thanks to the kind word put forth by the aforementioned Rhodes, he joined the Paul Eason Band in 2003, and then later the Taylor Davis Trio in 2004. Outside of music, Luke spends his time studying philosophy and political science at Texas State and trying to write.
